Success starts with Perseverance
Success starts with Perseverance
"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" - Matthew 25:21
At Calvary Education Group, we want our students to understand that success is not simply about talent or getting things right the first time. Rather, it is about being faithful, persistent, and willing to keep growing through challenges.
While many of us are familiar with the opening words of this well-loved verse—"Well done, good and faithful servant"— which forms the foundation of our organisational values, it is important that we also consider the powerful message contained in the second half. Jesus highlights that greater responsibility and blessing come through faithfulness in the small things. The servant is commended because he faithfully used what had been entrusted to him, and as a result, he was given greater opportunities and invited to share in his master's joy. This reminds us that growth, influence, and success are often built through consistent effort, perseverance, and faithfulness in the everyday moments.
Research continues to show the incredible value of persistence in learning. When students tackle difficult tasks and keep trying, even when they make mistakes, their brains form stronger neural connections. This process helps them learn new skills, deepen their understanding, and become more effective problem-solvers.
Persistence also plays a significant role in achieving goals. Students who learn to work through setbacks are more likely to experience success because they develop the ability to learn from challenges rather than be discouraged by them. Every obstacle becomes an opportunity to grow.
Perhaps most importantly, persistence builds confidence and resilience. Each time a student overcomes a difficulty, they strengthen their belief in their own ability to face future challenges. They learn that mistakes are not failures but stepping stones on the journey of growth.
As a Christian community, we encourage our students to see persistence not merely as a personal trait but as an expression of faithful stewardship. God has entrusted each of us with unique gifts, abilities, and opportunities. By faithfully applying ourselves, even when things are difficult, we honour Him and develop the character He desires in us.
May we continue to encourage our children to persevere, to embrace challenges, and to remain faithful in the tasks before them. In doing so, we help them develop not only as learners but also as young people who reflect Christ-like character and faithfulness in all they do.
After all, some of the most powerful words we can ever hope to hear are: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
