Get ready to turn up the volume — Calvary Christian College is bringing the high-energy hit School of Rock: The Musical to the stage on Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25 July, and it's a show you won’t want to miss!

Based on the much-loved movie, School of Rock tells the story of a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher and transforms a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. With its mix of comedy, heart and powerful music, the show promises to deliver an unforgettable night of entertainment.

Head of Creative Arts and Musical Director Mr Peter Bourke said the production is already shaping up to be something special.

“It’s a high-energy show with some really fun songs,” he said.

“Because it’s a well-known and loved movie, audiences will enjoy seeing our version of the story come to life on stage.”

What makes this production stand out is the fact that all the music will be performed live by Calvary’s own senior music students.

“We had a lot of strong musicians in our senior cohort this year, and School of Rock gives them the perfect platform to shine,” Mr Bourke said.

"Every song you hear will be played live by our students — it’s going to be electric!”

Rehearsals are going strong, and the team is embracing the complexity and energy that come with bringing this dynamic show to life.

“There are lots of moving parts to this show, which makes it a fun and exciting challenge,” Mr Bourke said.

“We’ve got a dedicated team of teachers working tirelessly behind the scenes, and the students are giving it their all. It’s amazing to see their growth.”

Musicals offer an incredible opportunity for student development, helping students build confidence, teamwork and resilience as they take on challenging songs, learn lines and combine singing with choreography, all while stepping outside their comfort zones.

“It’s not about being the ‘star’, but about everyone doing their part to make the whole show shine. 

"We’ve seen students from different year levels come together, support each other, and really embrace the spirit of community. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of the whole experience.”

As the big nights approach, audiences can expect a fun, fast-paced show filled with laughs, energy and heart!
