Forming Leaders of Character
Forming Leaders of Character
When I glance at my calendar each day, it’s a mosaic of colour - meetings, events and moments that shape our College. Yet among them, one stands out: my fortnightly time with our College Captains and student leadership team.
Why? because these conversations matter.
We don’t just talk schedules – we talk life and leadership. We explore how our student leaders can shape the culture of our College and influence those around them for good.
And I am continually encouraged.
I see young people who are not only eager to grow in their leadership, but who genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of others. They speak about impact, about responsibility and about setting the tone for those to follow. But what inspires me most is this: their leadership is not driven by ego, but by faith.
Together, we often reflect on the power of influence.
A kind leader multiplies kindness.
A selfish leader multiplies selfishness.
Leadership always leaves a mark – and our students are learning that they have both the opportunity and responsibility to shape that influence well.
What does a great leader look like in action: being self-aware and resilient in challenges and grounded in integrity. We discuss the importance of collaboration, community and truly listening. We highlight the power of being respectful, encouraging and confident in who they are called to be.
These are not just leadership qualities for a badge; they are qualities we hope to see in every student.
It is a privilege to witness our Captains stepping into this space with humility, conviction and a genuine desire to strengthen the culture of our College. As a college community, may we all seek to lead with the same heart, shaping those around us with faith, purpose and service. As we are reminded in Matthew 25:21 – “Well done good and faithful servant.”
