We are looking to decorate our sporting fields in house colour in preparation for our 3 Mini Meets in the last week of school. All students from grade 3-12 are invited to participate in our Giant House Collage. Every student is asked to bring something from home that is in their house colour. The student will then add this to the house collage to help create a wall of different textures, shapes and materials. Every student that donates an item will get a point for their house. Let’s get creative!
Note – these items will not be returned. Items need to be brought in on Monday 22/06 and Tuesday 23/06 to add directly to the collage.
Ideas for house colour items may include the following;
Old green shirt
- Wool weaving star
- Old soft toy
- Odd red sock - to weave
- Paper red fish
- Hand print art
- Old blue pillow case – cut into strips
- Wool craft dolls
- Homemade craft
- Long chain of plaited wool
- Feather boa
- Old beach towel cut into strips to plait
- Red paper cup flowers
- Straw hats
We are taking an expression of interest for the Semester 2 Scuba Course. There will be 3 courses running next semester.
Junior Open Water – Open for grade 7-9 students. This will occur in junior sport time and will involve some later finishes on the practical days.
Senior Open Water – Open to grade 10-12 students who have not yet completed a scuba course.
Advanced Scuba – Open to students who already have their Open Water licence and want to advance their skills with search and rescus skills.
Mr Wood is a certified PADI Scuba instructor who runs our scuba courses here at Calvary. All sessions will occur in the programmed Junior and Senior sport session each week and will include theory and practical sessions at Northshore pool. Parents and students will be required to attend an information night prior to registering. The cost for each course is $450.
Please email Mrs Jackie Downes email@example.com if you are interested in attending a parent information night for more info.
- The TCNA Netball Competition will be re-starting up in Term 3 for a modified 10 week competition with a weekend catch up carnival over the 1/2 August. Training may start sooner. Connect with your netball club for further details.
- Tennis Townsville are offering Holiday clinics over June/July 2020 and all students are welcome to join. Please see attached flyer for more information.
Calvary Christian College is affiliated with Townsville Secondary School Sport (TSSS). TSSS run three major carnivals throughout the year – Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.
Students who place in the top 2 – 4 in our college carnivals are invited to represent Calvary at to the TSSS Carnivals. If students do well at these carnivals they can then gain selection into Townsville, North Queensland and State teams respectively.
To develop skill and fitness in these major Sport Carnivals, Calvary provides before school training two days a week for those students who wish to receive extra tuition in swimming, running or athletics. These training sessions are conducted at the College Oval and Long Tan Swimming Pool.
Students have the opportunity to attend TSSS team sport trial days throughout the year. Students must have prior experience and be competent players in their chosen sport. All trials are after school and it is the parent’s responsibility to get students to and from trials and games. Selection into these teams gives opportunity for students to participate at a higher level of competition and progress through Townsville District, North Queensland and State Championships. Students wishing to attend trials must submit the Player Profile form two weeks prior to the trial date.
TSSS offer four terms of round robin competitions played in home and away fixtures on Tuesday or Wednesday after school. Parents are responsible in transporting their child to the venues each week. Fixtures are played for the length of a term before changing to another sport.
Term 1 students in Year 7 - 9 participated in a weekly Inter-House Round Robin competition. It had a great atmosphere with students enthusiastic with the variety of sports played. Points were accumulated throughout the term for win/losses and extra points earned for sportsmanship. Well done to those students who earned a gold bar for sportsmanship each week. Congratulations to the EZRA house who finished with the highest points overall.
